Post-Extraction Care
After a tooth extraction, proper care is essential for smooth healing and to avoid complications. At Southview Dental Care, we want your recovery to be as comfortable as possible. Here are some of our key aftercare recommendations:
- Rest for the first day after your extraction to give your body time to heal.
- Apply an ice pack to the cheek near the extraction site to help reduce swelling.
- Avoid disturbing the blood clot for the first 24 hours — don’t rinse forcefully, spit hard, or use a straw.
- After 24 hours, gently rinse your mouth several times a day with a warm saltwater solution to promote healing.
- Stick to soft foods initially, adding firmer foods gradually as you recover.
- Continue brushing and flossing carefully, avoiding the extraction site to protect the healing area.
